When I was in college, I studied abroad in Spain for a summer. Although I was there to study Spanish, let’s just say learning languages has never been my forte. I stayed with a family who spoke zero English and most of our first interactions were filled with a lot of humorous pointing and hand motions. I desperately wanted to communicate with them, to share about my day or what I was learning in class, but most of our conversations stopped short after commenting on the weather.
Even without a language barrier, many of us struggle to communicate with our spouse, our kids, or our friends. We want to share our hearts with them, the hard things about our day, or even the good news of the Gospel, but sometimes we can’t seem to find the words.
God is different. God wanted to communicate with us so much, because of His love for us, that He came to us in human form. In Jesus, God took on flesh to identify with us, to speak our language, because He desired a relationship with us. His heart is that we all have the opportunity to know Him and know His Word.
If you know pureHOPE, you know that our vision is this: to see a world free of sexual exploitation and brokenness. A World Free. We chose these words carefully because when we say “world”, we really mean it! But this wasn’t our vision to start with, this is God’s vision. God’s desire is for the whole world to know Him. In Scripture, we see this over and over again!
“He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the LORD is powerful and so that you might always fear the LORD your God.” —Joshua 4:24
“The nations will fear the name of the LORD, all the kings of the earth will revere your glory.” —Psalm 102:15
“Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.” —Isaiah 45:22
“And the gospel must first be preached to all nations.” —Mark 13:10
God’s heart is, and has always been, for the nations. But not only is it God’s heart, He wants it to be our heart too. He wants us to look out into our world, whether it be across the ocean or across the street, and have eyes to see people for who they truly are—beloved sons and daughters of the King.
Can you believe we get to do this? By His grace, God has chosen us to be vessels of hope and declare His Truth to a broken world.
This is why we are so excited to announce the release of La Misión: Criar Hijos en una Cultura Sexualiza, the Spanish translation of our parenting resource, Quest: Parenting in a Sexualized Culture! This project has been a dream for a long time, and now we are finally releasing it into the world and into your hands. La Misión is an incredible tool for Spanish-speaking parents and influencers, as they pursue and model the pursuit of God’s love, purity and justice to their children and/or disciples.
There are roughly 41 million native Spanish-speakers in the U.S. alone, 427 million in the world, and we want every single one of them to know the message of pureHOPE, which at its core is the Gospel. Jesus is our Pure Hope and in Him we find the answer to our heart’s deepest longings.
I’m so grateful that pureHOPE is making larger strides in closing language barriers than I did that summer in Spain, and I cannot wait to see the impact this new resource is going to have for generations to come!
