Justice Internship #9

Justice Internship #9

Look at these happy, wonderful people! Our Discipleship + Outreach Director, Aszia Pearson, just led our 9th cohort of Justice Interns. We hosted 6 young leaders this summer who came to us from Wisconsin to Washington. We have now equipped 43 interns from 20 states and counting through this discipleship program. Hear about their summer experience from Austin, a 2017 Justice Intern who is returning to campus as a Student/Athlete:

“At pureHOPE, the thought-provoking discussions and content provide for a unique experience of learning and growth that the interns will want to cultivate for years to come. The relationships I’ve built over the summer are ones I will value for the rest of my life, even as we go our different ways across the country. In our broken world, the Justice Internship allows young men and women to come to a place that will challenge their preconceived notions on sexual exploitation, and will leave them equipped with a knowledge and skillset to spread God’s truth in their sphere of influence. Without doubt, I’ll talk to all the people I know about pornography and our definition of purity. I’ll do what I can in the locker room by both being an example of someone thriving in a sexualized culture and discussing pornography, masturbation, and sleeping around with guys who I know are at least familiar with Christ and would call themselves Christians.”

Culture, as we’ve shared before, literally means “cultivations of souls.” From college campuses to our communities, whatever culture or subculture we find ourselves in, there is sexual brokenness. The deceiver of the whole world (Revelation 12:9) loves to use tactics that mar our understanding of sexual identity—of bearing His image as male and female, sons and daughters of the Most High. But our hope is greater than his schemes. We are being purified daily by the One who is pure, Jesus. Let this charge become yours:

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,  waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession who are zealous for good works. — Titus 2:11-14
